The careful composition & saturated colors give it a definite painterly look, but what I like the most about this are the shadows - the broad areas that run along the ground & the tree's shadow on the brick. This reminds me a lot of the historic town 20 minutes from where I live - Jacksonville, Oregon - which has the same kind of old advertising painted right on the side of similar brick buildings...
