Description

Utah is full of surprises. It's a demanding landscape. Harsh, dry and absolutely fascinating. Camping in a motorhome means we were never short of water, but the landscape demands that you think about it a lot. Not from a survival point of view, but from a place of sheer curiosity. By the time we left Utah, we were mentally pooped out. We'd purchased several books on the local geology, and our brains were running over with information about shallow inland seas, mudstone, shale, erosion, compression and ... well ... you get the idea. In a land so diverse and rugged, this was just an unmarked feature near the highway. Zoom seems better on this one.

Outstanding Terragen render... oh, of course, it's a photograph! You're a genius at capturing nature's fractals (and people, and architecture, and...).

it sounds and looks fascinating, big landscapes are something we dont have in abundance over here in UK, at least not on this scale and it always fascinates me to see rural America.

Truly astonising! You have my mind working now about constrictions on personal library size in a motorhome....

Around Mexican Hat there is huge uplifting like this in the redrocks! Glad you enjoyed your visit. It has captivated me now for over 35 years! Didn't have much time there this spring and not so sure I will before winter sets in, but have my eye on 5 acres between Bryce and Zion! Hope to be able to see that and decide if it is something I'd want.

No fair, I want to live in a motor home and travel around the country. I'm fairly certain I would have to pick somewhere with .. idk, less desert. But yea, it's pretty as long as you don't have to look at it over coffee every day.

There's something really soul-satifying about those jagged teeth of rock. The shape, the myriad colours, the lines of them against the mountains behind and the sky; all together it's a wonderful landscape capture!

Looks like sedimentary layers pushed up to form a barrier. Rather dramatic landscape.

It would appear that many millions of years ago, the whole landscape just tilted upward. A fascinating shot, Tara! Spectacular, in fact!
