Description

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. The Wingate Sandstone cliffs (top) crack and break with rain and ice, expansion and contraction. See the blocks of rock littering the lower slopes? Everything in this landscape started out a little higher up. Full view on this one shows better color and clarity.

Geology is fascinating. There seems to be three distinct zones here - different epochs...? Great capture, Tara.

I like that effect, and for that same reason I have plans to rephotograph a particular spot to see how much change has happened in 5 or 6 years. Nice shot!

All of us of a certain age can sympathize with the Wingate Sandstone cliffs. We all started out a little higher up but age tends to break us down. Wonderful dramatic sky and erosion detail.

Great capture! Was pretty crowded when I went through there and most of what I want to see is kind of hard to get to anyway! So much to see and so little time! Thanks for the reminder!

Yep, I sympathise wholeheartedly--all of my bits are starting to obey the law of gravity and crumbling on the way down! But what a beautiful scene you've captured here, the lines and textures of the rock are fascinating.

Lucky You!!! I went thru Capital Reef years ago, but didn't get to spend any time there. Just driving thru was beautiful. I hope you got to see Lake Powell.
