John, not to take anything away from such a beautiful image but Io is a moon of Jupiter and the planet is definitely Jupiter. I will assume you had a brain lock and just mis-spoke. That's your story and your sticking to it.

It would be hard to take a picture from "Io" being you'd burn to a crisp in lava! But all kidding aside it's a great render. Stan

Not to get picky or anything, but Io is a moon of Jupiter, and like Greywolf44 said, shown is the giant planet Jupiter in this fine image. Break out the old astronomy journals, my friend. And if that is Io on the bottom, it appears to consist of a tarlike lava.

I'm sure John meant Europa, which is thought to have a core and crust similar to Earth's which is covered by salt water. because of its distance from the sun the upper layer is frozen. The cracks in the ice are believed to be caused by the elliptical orbit of Europa and the Tidal (gravtational) pull of Jupiter.

No matter what rocks it were and what you see, it is a great picture and it fit well in every imaginairy space. Still a good reason to refresh our knowledge about our solarsystem.
