Because of the depth of the claws - I would suspect a bear. Mark's comment was funny but I understand the circumstances. You're a great guy Mike and I apologize that I did not notice when you went over 2,000 postings!

Not a heavy animal... the track is shallow in wet ground. It walks on the front pads or toes and digs in with what appears to be long sharp claws or nails... maybe a large cat species?

If that yellow aspen leaf is averaged sized, I'd say it's too small to be a bear. It's hard to tell. I'd say it was a fox myself. It's not a heavy critter and might have been trotting or lopping the way the paw-print is - i.e. deep in the front only.
