Description

Well last time I said that the papal chapel at Avignon was enormous, but that shot was more to give a sense of the beautiful light play of the stoney interior. Here you get a better idea of the scale of the place. It is the same woman in this picture but now she is further back and I have only moved a few steps to the left so I am pretty much where I was in my previous shot and I am still using a 13 mm focal length. Can you imagine what it must have been like to be there on say an Easter Sunday service in the middle of the 14th century? That is what I try to convey when I am taking shots like this; it is what I imagine when I am in such places. And yes, back to gray scale because I need to work with that pure power mode for a while. In religious architecture light entries were planned to impress the parishioners! Great capture and I love it in B&W.

The stone work looks exquisite and when it was fully adorned it must have been an unbelievable sight for the people of the 14th century.

Just an incredible capture, Roxy! Just look at that play between the light and shadow.. Indeed, this place is almost overwhelming! I can well image what it would have been like on a major holiday in its heyday. Fantastic capture, and B&W is perfect for this!

Yup, they built 'em very big and impressive back then. Great light and shadow in this Roxy. Black and white suits it well!
