Description

On my way home after a recent hospital appointment, the rain fine but persistent, I chose a route along a small section of the Kennet Canal. This path, known as Chestnut Walk, though old, was renovated as a millennium project and incorporated into a short (3 mile/4.8 km) heritage trail known as the Oscar Wilde Walk. The Kennet canal can be seen to the left of this picture while the large wall to the right is part of Reading Gaol where Wilde was imprisoned between 1895 and 1897. It was here that he wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol (published in 1898), about a man hanged there for the murder of his wife. And by the time I arrived home, I was soaked. :-) ------------------------------------------ Original Photograph 30 Jul 2013
