Description
The Big Parade, captured 5/29/10, at the beautiful Orange County Fair & Event Center in beautiful Costa Mesa, California.
To be more precise, it was the United Scottish Society's Highland Games & Gathering's Scottish Festival of Celtic Entertainment & Food.
The last photo shows the entire assemblage of musicians.
Much better viewed full size.
One would think that receiving only five comments on my last Scots Fest posting would discourage me, but, hey, I took hundreds of fotos of this event, 95 of the Big Parade and 116 of the bagpipers alone, so I can't let that deter me, with more to come later of this stirring musical exhibition. That said, I'm adding this collage before going on to other subject matter, which I also have tons/tonnes of.
Shalom, and have a nice day.

Stirring is exactly the word that came to mind while viewing these wonderful captures of the corps de pipes and drums, Harry; a lot of pride on parade here, playing their hearts out for the audience. You got some really excellent shots!

I don't feel so bad about missing the local Scottish Festival here this past weekend after seeing your photos. I try every year to get there, and the past few I've had to miss. And I sure do miss it. The St.Andrews beer, the games, and hearing the pipers. Thanks for sharing!

This is the perfect "cap" for this series, so far. (I know you have others, but for this time around, you picked the right image to close with.) Because it's grand, has large numbers, and you end with a huge shot of the whole entourage. You get really clarity in these marching shots, Harry, and you give lots of variety too. Here, pipes, the small and larger drums, a mix of both, and then the huge 'master' shot. And in the process we get to see the outfits, the young with the old (really joyful to see that), and men with women, along with the rhythms of the pipes and cords and hats, etc. (They wear leg gear---most fascinating!) Lots of rhythm and visual music. Also: I'd imagine it's not easy to bring these sights to life since you are dealing with repetition, the same pov (you can't get high or low, it looks like), a flat field, etc. So I respect what you've done with the circumstance. Very fine work, and a fine embrace of what it means to be a marching musician...
