Computer geek extarodinaire, I love to tinker with gadgets and tech items to get them to do what I want. I'm either logically artistic or artisically logical. I'm also rude, crude, semi-barbaric, socially unacceptable, and totally psychotic. On the bright side - I am potentially harmless. I'm currently trying to write some short stories about the fae as well as a novel on those same fae as well as two other novels. The programs I have for photo and image editing are: Photoimpact from Ulead, Adobe Photoshop 7 and Corel Paint Shop Pro 2X. Recently I've added DAZ Studios as well as Terragen, Blender and Google Sketch to my list of programs crowding my hard-drive. All this and much more on an old Pentium III 450 with 396 Megs of memory and operating Windows XP. It does get interesting at time.As of December 26, 2008, I have added Vue 7 Pioneer to my list of reason of why I'm going insane.
As of January 2010 I upgraded to a new HP 2 dual core processor with 6 gigs onboard mem with 4 gig powerboost and 2.07 terabytes of Hard drivesMy email is faemike55@gmail.com

A sad truth. As we were this year in the U.S., we also visited Skid Row in LA. It has driven me the tears in the eyes. What make people do in the wintertime???? Even in Germany there are homeless and aid agencies are overwhelmed. Here also, the Company is required! More than ever! An absolutely strong image, Mike!

These things should not happen in any place, unfortunately, here in my country it happens so often that is alarming. I can not venture an age for the first, but it seems that the other is an old man. Great capture, Mike!

Sad fact of life.

There are reasons for this. Forty years ago our Governor Reagan opened the mental hospitals in California. Those deemed not crazy enough were turned out. We are deficient in caring for our veterans. Many of the homeless are military suffering from various maladies. Funds for alcohol and drug diversion have been cut back or eliminated. Some are just those who have lost their jobs, their homes and their hope during our recent recession. But, of course, we don't have the money to begin to solve these problems because the rich need another tax break. The next time any of us complain about all of our problems I hope we can remember this image. What we have is an inconvenience. These guys have a problem. Thanks for reminding us, Mike.

You stated what I really wanted to say, but I did not want to get too damn political. it's a bit of a hot-button issue with me. While having more money would be great, recognition of the underlying issues and causes and a search for a viable solution that will carry over, but as you pointed out, the rich think they need a tax break in order to survive.

A sad commentary Mike, and common elsewhere as well. In Alberta our government ministers in their wisdom closed most of the mental homes in the province literally pushing many out onto the street because they could not cope any other way. Now they complain about the high cost of police hauling these people into hospitals and being forced to babysit them until hospital staff can attend to them. Attending to them really means releasing them out to the streets again. The net effect has been to raise the cost of caring for those that need it. And, sadly, many people with mental problems do not receive any care except from volunteer organizations. Little by little, provincial governments in Canada are destroying the grand health care system that Tommy Douglas created because of being unable to control health care costs. And the reason health care costs are so high is directly as a consequence of out-of-control bloated incomes of doctors in Canada. Of course the doctors will not agree with me because their God-Complex is so well established that they believe they should earn a million or two each while taking three vacations a year. I could go on...

A most relevant photo for these tough times, and I fear it will only get worse as more and more wealth gets concentrated into the hands of fewer and fewer greedy individuals!

it's a sad situation everywhere my friend. some use old huge big tv boxes as a cardboard house. seems like the funds that the lotterys have could do something about this.
jendellas
Yes we have lots of homeless people too, what must it be like in the winter, especially when its wet & icy. x

This is happening everywhere, even here in Reno, NV. And your capture is sparking discussion that might open a door to actually help what Regan started in Cali as talked about above. If one could tie their shoes, they could live on the streets and were released. Totally sad and totally wrong as some of the people are capable of doing better but many are not. Thank you Mike that you posted this!

When I was involved in the church many years ago I went down to Louisiana and there were many young people living on the streets aged 15-19 that were living homeless most had runaway from good families out of rebellion or disagreements with their parents. They called themselves the "Forgotten Ones". One night we took surplus army blankets and hot vegetable soup to where they were staying at under a bridge. It is one of my most cherished and sad memories I know they appreciated it and felt that they were not as forgotten as they thought they were. I have not shared that memory with many people but this image brought those memories back so I thought I would share it with you my extended family
