Description

This is the ceiling of the main dome of the Blue Mosque. The outer dome height is 43 m so the inner height of the dome can't be too much less. The inner dome diameter is 23.50 m. The thin vertical lines are wires on which electric lights are suspended. The lights are about 15-ft above the carpeted floor where the faithful kneel during prayer services. I would liked to have seen how they put the tiles up there. But what impresses me even more, is that the Hagia Sofia, similar in size, was completed in 357 AD in less than six years. This picture was taken on 29 June 2013, Sig...

Very beautiful Sig. On holiday in Innsbrook we went into a cathedral where the ceilings looked like this but the guide told us they were in fact flat!

Hand pieced mosaic tile work would have been done exactly the same way then as now. Drawings, patterns, layouts, scaffolding, and lots and lots of time and patience and experience. This is just gorgeous. I'm so glad you took these pictures of the inside! :)

This is a spectacular POV and capture Sig. Can you imagine the workforce and scaffolding that filled this area during construction?
