Description
The name of this enbanked village, dating 14th-8th century BC. that is from the Middle Bronze Age to the early Iron Age, is Motte di Sotto, Lower Mounds. If the Upper Mounds ever existed, there is no record of them. The village, who was enbanked in the 12th century BC, is located exactly astride the border of the provinces of Padua and Treviso. It is 6 hectares (14 acres) large, that is a medium-sized village for the time, close to the ancient bed of the river Muson, which was used fir the irrigation canals of the fields around the village. On the lower part of the posted image you can see the aerial views of the village. Near the entrance, where you can see a modern building (a restaurant), there were three mounds, and one was at the opposite entrance. they were destroyed in the early 20th century. A road, parallel to the enbankment ran through the village, led to an area 2 miles far, that was possibly sacred. Here you can see a reconstruction I made of the village: only the trees and bushes of the frame are real. Today you can only see cultivated fields and some bushes inside. Look at Google maps and the street view to have a better idea; the coordinates of the site 45.670199,11.86571 . If you have problems, look for Motte di Sotto San Martino di Lupari/Castello de Godego (the two nearby villages in the two provinces of Padua and Treviso)

Very interesting information and images. I like your reconstruction very much. It's like I am looking down into the village about to walk in. It feels like stepping back in time. I found it on Google maps. I virtually wandered along the roads a ways. It is a beautiful area. Excellent and interesting work!
