Description

Restored Mikoyan-Gurewich MiG-17 on an aviator-monument on the Grossenhain aerodrome 40 kilometers north of Dresden. Grossenhain has been a military airfield since 1913 and was used by the sovjet air force between 1945 and 1990. There is a 2500 by 80(!) meters concrete runway where four MiGs could take of at once. Inscription on the base of the monument means something like the glory of the sovjet aviation. Photo taken ten years ago, when Akaflieg Dresden had just left that place. Nikon Coolpix 900 (16th march, 2003) no post work (as far as I remember)

Very cool!!! though blasting off a concrete ramp is going to scratch the paintwork something fierce..... :-) Actually this reminds me of a scene from the old Gerry Anderson 'Thunderbirds' series.....

I hope they don't pull it down.... though the elements will play havoc with it I guess.
