Description

The standard in pilot training... known in Canada and the rest of the cold commonwealth as the Harvard, the Americans called it the Texan.....the advanced trainer before they gave you the keys to the sports cars..... two seater, all weather, very forgiving of pilots who would sometimes "forget"... and rugged as all hell....they can take off and land from dirt roads and grass fields.... thousands of pilots in the free world learned and earned their wings on this machine. And many are still flying, owned privately, by families, by teams.... used as camera planes and as stunt doubles in movies.... fame earned and maintained... The Harvard. side note: During the Second World War, Churchill refered to Canada as "the aerodrome of democracy" a lot of pilot training was done on the prairies, because we had the space... Pilots from Australia, New Zealand, Free Poland, Free France, England, Canada, and America came and learned.... lot of Americans joined up with the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew combat missions before America got into the war, gaining valuable experience which they took back with them.... like I said... just a side note... comments welcome.... even the nasty Ayn Randers out there...

Wow, impressive. We are having an airshow/races here in Reno, Nevada, United States. In fact, some Royal Canadian fighter planes are coming here to give us a treat!

In Australia, we have a Harvard aerobatic team that I go to see whenever I can. They are called The Southern Knights. You can see them HERE! Nice shot BTW.

Your side note is very true, it was far FAR safer at times to train pilots in Canada than Britain.. German fighters roamed anywhere during the early years... Great line up, nice shot and super info! Rob

Hats off to all those Harvard "graduates" too! Great to see so many of these dangerous machines lined up... "Caution" indeed! ;-)
