Who was feral and nobody wanted.
Who slept in sunbeams.
Who loved being chucked under the chin.
Who smooshed up her face when her forehead was rubbed.
Who chased leaves and ate grass.
Who frightened birds with her chattering teeth.
Who warmed my chest, lap and heart.
Who never judged and was always there.
Who listened and never questioned.
Who loved peanuts.
Who always felt the need to wash my face and hands.
Who always thought I wasn’t soft enough and needed to be kneaded.
Who always came to the door when I came home.
Who never hurt a living thing.
Who always woke me if I slept late.
Who at 20, when even blind and deaf, could find me.
Who I cried for as I buried them under the bird bath.
