Description

These interesting galls are caused by the asexual generation of a little gall wasp Andricus quercusalicis. The insects that emerge, the sexual generation, lay their eggs in Turkey oak buds making tiny galls on the male catkins. More specimens Here and Here

What a great macro shot of these strange and alien looking "things". As someone else has written, "You learn something new everyday".

What I see is absolutely galling. There is an acorn to the left, and two rather cadaverous red bell peppers astride lovely green leaves in the center.

If it weren't for you and your attention to botanical details, I never would have known about galls. SO interesting!

This is an amazing capture Andrea. It is so different than any of the galls that I have seen in my lifetime. The acorn gives wonderful perspective and as ugly as these galls are - they are of beautiful and interesting! :)
