Cette série est librement inspirée par l'histoire de Tancrède et Clorinde. Monteverdi a créé un superbe opéra sur cette histoire: Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda avec en particulier une musique impressionnante pour évoquer le duel! Tancrède, chevalier croisé, fait partie de la troupe qui a envahi une région d'Orient habitée par les Maures. Les premiers temps de cette occupation sont pacifiques, et Tancrède tombe amoureux d'une jeune princesse maure, Clorinde, et il ne tarde pas à lui déclarer sa flamme.
