Known among the Imperial Consortium as the Holram Assault Carrier, the Terran Protectorate has code-named this ship the Whiplash. Filling the same niche as the Stellar Navy's Skirmisher and Archer escort carriers, the Holram is a light carrier that transports a wing of 48 fighters. While a fearsome sight with a pair of heavy particle beam cannons forward and aft, and two anti-matter magnetic torpedo launchers, the Holram is not meant for direct combat and generally avoids it by any means possible, relying on its fighters and ever-present escorts for protection. The ship gets its name, the Whiplash, from its unique quick activation spacefold system. To deliver its fighters effectively, the Holram folds space and appears extremely close to its target, rapidly disgorges its fighters and then folds out with startling and disturbing speed. One moment, space is empty, the next moment it is boiling over with enemy fighters. This is apparently only possible if the Holram spacefolds the second time right back to the place from which it just folded. This folding in, dumping fighters and then popping right back to where it started is where it gets the nickname the Whiplash, and at least one has been destroyed when Stellar Navy ships launched a salvo of missiles ahead of time because they knew where the Holram would appear when it spacefolded the second time.
