this is an alder tree that has been visited by one of the five cougars that were roaming the area and thus scaring the elk to higher grounds. have a nice day

I can imagine the cougar singing "In a coat of gold,or a coat of red, the lion still has claws, and mine are long and Sharp, my lord, as long and Sharp tan yours" while he was doing that to the tree.

Very good evidence of what would make the elk nervous. Great shot. I like the way the light tree stands out against the darker background and the orange scratches stand out against the light tree bark.

Better sharpen their claws on the tree, as in humans ... At least you were not eaten by a bear ... Still, a very impressive photo!
