Description

I saw these growing everywhere in the woods. I doubt that they are safe to eat, but they are very beautiful

When I was a kid, we had a small hobby farm in the family. By small I mean 5 cows etc! It was about 50 acres or something, but it had beautiful woods in which to explore. As kids, we used to find mushrooms all the time, cook them up and eat them without giving a thought as to if they were poisonous. Maybe Aunty was checking them as she helped us! But anywaz, I would never be brave enough to eat any I don't buy these days after the horror stories you read in the paper of people dying slow, painful deaths from eating the wrong kind.

I have just checked out all your pix from the hunting trip, you are a very man, to visit the unknown ? glad you had a friend with you! but then there are the rewards of eating game, there is nothing that tastes better, IMHO ... I am just imagining eating game with a mushrooms sauce, potatoes and red cabbage - YUM ;) Half your luck Mike and BTW a scrumptious looking image BB

They're glistening. Was this after a shower, or a visit by snails?

I've never seen mushrooms this slick and shiny looking! I'd be really afraid to eat those - like Mike (mrestey) said, they're too pretty to not be toxic! Another cool capture, Mike!

I think Mark has the correct ID, difficult to be precise about exactly which Russula without pics of the stipe and gills, but do NOT eat!!!

This looks like the Russula emetica, commonly known as the sickener, emetic russula, or vomiting russula. From the alternate names you can probably guess that you were smart not to eat it. It could also be a related fungus called the Russula silvicola which is only slightly less poisonous. Looks like they got rained on. Sweet capture.
