Description
First posted in my gallery at RDNA. This is a homage to the amazing drawing and story telling talent of Mark Schultz and his Xenozoic Tales comic series, and is a recreation of a particular panel in the issue History Lesson. Anyone interested in comic art should check it out ....
It's also the culmination of months spent learning how to model in Silo and Zbrush - the figure I used as a base is Alyson 2 with Anastasia, but the only original geometry left is the forearms and hands. Clothing (inc. boots), hair and tubes are all Zbrush; the bomb, plinth, belt and accessories all started in Silo. I mostly learned by making mistakes - these meshes are not optimised or UV'd, so this render is all high-poly geometry with a very basic grey clay material in Poser. Now I know how to retopologise properly I may revisit this scene in the future, but not for some time given how long I've already spent on it! The scene was put together and rendered in PP2014, then the split-tone colouring and contrast adjustments were made in Camera Bag 2, and it was finished in Photoshop.
Thanks for looking!

it's nice, lots of details, and you must have learned a lot :-) Compliments. I like the color scheme, a welcome alternative to clay renders. Thanks for sharing, and please do follow up!

Nicely done!

Silo under-rated, zbrush-a long learning curve, nice to know others are out there using the same software. Irrespective of the challenges I love the lighting and the marquetry-like colouring you have achieved, it is a visually interesting and intriguing, well done and thanks for the detailed explanation

I've got a load of the Xenozenoic books and you've captured this piece perfectly!
Are you likely to produce any of these for purchase in the future?
