Description
"Tate, I will do everything I can to assist you in freeing your friend from
Kasza'Zuel. I however cannot allow him to gain power, especially power from this
tomb. Do you understand?"
Everything he says makes sense, giving more power to an already powerful
demon in exchange for saving one mortal life doesn't seem wise. Hayden however
is my friend and the dark child already appears to be extremely powerful, what
difference can one book really make?
"I understand your logic Kortt but as I said, I will free Hayden."
I see the frustration form on his brow, then he says...
"I'm here to help you, you have to trust me."
Trust him? This guy is claiming to be the Broken Arrow, that's just not
possible.
"Then be honest with me Kortt, if your truly the Broken Arrow then explain to
me how your still alive? The impact you made on the Great War is well known by
all, but the a Great War was over eight hundred years ago!"
He hesitates momentarily before replying.
"That I'm afraid is not a story we have time for, so the way I see this is
you have two choices. You can either except that I am who I say or you can not,
either way you know I possess power you cannot afford to turn away."
All good points but I need to know he is who he says and not some imposter.
"You keep referring to this tomb and the power contained in these walls,
who's tomb is it?"
He grimaces.
"I don't know and do not believe there is anyone who still lives that does.
What I do know is that the moment I entered, I felt an overwhelming sense of old
magic and power. I have not felt anything like it in a very, very long time. You
need to understand old magic is not like that of magic today, old magic was more
raw and terrifying in nature. As I said this tomb was built to be forgotten, you
stumbling across it was one in a million."
That reminds me, how did he arrive here so quickly?
"It took me months, many months to reach this tomb. How did you find it so
quickly? Earlier you said my deal with the dark child is what alerted you, that
was only several hours ago. How did you get here so fast?"
"Tate, I possess abilities which allow me to travel in a fraction of the time
it would take anyone else. I have had many lifetimes to hone my abilities and I
have a particularly unique connection with demon magic. That is what allowed me
to trace you here."
He seems to have an answer for everything but one question still lingers in
my head.
"Where have you been for the last eight hundred years? The stories say that
during the Great War in its final days when hope seemed lost a man appeared, a
man unlike any the world had ever known. With his great sword he hacked his way
through the lines of the opposing forces, thousands fell to his might instantly
changing the advantage of the battle. He swept through the opposing lines until
finally reaching the warlord but it was no ordinary warlord it was in fact the
god of war himself! A fierce battle ensued unlike anything the world had ever
seen before, when their mighty swords connected thunder consumed the sky. The
battle raged for days until finally the god of war struck the swordsman sending
him to his knees, the end seemed undeniable. As the god of war moved in for the
kill the swordsman with speed that defied reason reached down, picked up a
broken arrow and lodged it deeply into the skull of the god. He never saw it
coming, as his body fell to ground a legend was born and the war was over. After
that the Broken Arrow disappeared, their were rumors of more greatness from time
to time but no hard proof. Where did you go? What happened to you? How could you
make such a impact and just disappear?"
As I finish my question I notice Kortt laughing under his breath.
"I have never heard that told with such conviction. Yes, there was a Great
War and yes I picked up a broken arrow but as far as the rest goes it's more
than a little exaggerated. I didn't hack through thousands of troops and I
certainly heard no thunder when our swords collided. Most importantly he was not
a God, maybe in his own mind but really he was just a man who let his
accumulated power go to his head. As for what happened to me after that...well
let's just say someone of real power requested that I stay out of mortal
affairs. They presented me with the opportunity to start a new chapter in my
life and to this day that is still the path I travel."
"What does that mean?" I ask.
"Tate, your looking for answers that have no simple explanation. It would be
in your friends best interest if we don't delay any longer, I am the Broken
Arrow, what reason would I have to lie about such a thing?"
"I don't know. You have to look at it from my point of view, your a legend
and you show up here to help when I need help more than ever...seems a little
convenient."
Before Kortt can respond light begins filling the hall. We both turn
simultaneously to see Titan opening the door and moving into the room, however
no sooner does he stops just as suddenly and stares in awe at something inside.
It's amazing he has survived this long, so impulsive and ready for anything,
truly fearless for such a little guy.
Approaching the door I find all my attention is still focused on Kortt. I
want to believe he really is the Broken Arrow but part of me doesn't want to be
let down, all I can do is continue on and if he is the legend he claims to be it
should become all to obvious. For Hayden's sake I hope he is telling the truth.
