Description

This was taken at Fort Casey, Washington. The guns at Fort Casey were on disappearing carriages so they could be raised out of protective emplacements and so exposed to enemy ships only when they were firing. Like most military advancements, they were made obsolete by newer military advancements, in this case, military airplanes and better battleships. You can read about disappearing guns here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearing_gun The guns were only fired in practice, never in war time. You can see a picture of a test fire here: http://www.whidbeycamanoislands.com/arts_history/military/ The guns of Fort Casey were melted down for their metal during WWll. When Fort Casey became a state park in the 1950s, similar guns were brought in from the Philippines and installed at Fort Casey. Thanks for viewing and for previous comments and favs. There will be a collage with the comments open at the end of the series.
