Description

A bumper harvest this year means that lots of free food is available. There are lots of recipes for Rowan Jelly preserve but this one looks good http://www.hedgerowharvest.org.uk/hedge-recipes/item/48-rowan-and-rosemary-jelly BTW The Rowan or Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia ) is not the same species as the Ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior) which is suffering from Ash Dieback disease, That doesn't have berries but fruits which are called keys.

I didn't know they were edible, we have tons of them around here. I'd almost be afraid to try! Wonderful shot here!

Rowan Berries Rowan Atkinson's cousin? Hehe! I never knew also that they were edible and like my honey would be afraid to try them. IT's a shame we have these things like ash die back etc. Not sure if it is insect based, I will have to investigate. But a lot of deforestation is our fault. The poisons we pump into the atmosphere per diem, the fumes from motor ways and the like. I am reminded of the words of a red man years ago which is also what I use as my quote in the forums. "Only when the last tree has been chopped down, when the rivers have been poisioned and the last fish caught, will you realize you cannot eat money"

I didn't know you could eat these, either! Like Denise, I would be hesitant to try them for fear that ours are somehow different from yours! :P Aak! Beautiful pic, though. That read is wonderful!
