Description
I apologize for the quality of this image. I was working quickly. I was photographing this Mantis when the wasp showed up. I quickly worked to take this picture, but as my camera was processing the picture, the Mantis grabbed the wasp and they wrestled for a second or two with the wasp finally breaking free and flying off. Had I just waited a second to take the picture, I would have caught them in the struggle. I feel that I have missed my once in a lifetime National Geographic moment. I have a real love hate relationship with my point and shoot camera.

I know that feeling! My first digital camera was a point and shoot and I just could not stand the delay between shutter depression and photo capture, not to mention the wait until you could take the next shot. I lost so many good photos because of that. Going to a DSLR changed all that.

Oh isn't that just the way when it comes to that once in a lifetime event, I can imagine how frustrated you must have felt. I think nevertheless you have got a fabulous shot here, you don't see such insects around these parts so it is very interesting for me to see it here. hugs Jane xx

No need to apologize, Dan... you did a remarkable job as far as I'm concerned and the subject is absolutely fascinating! I've never seen one of these up close and personal! Well done!

I have the same problems with my point and shot. Found that out when I wanted to take Formula 1 race car pictures. You may have missed your once in a lifetime National Geographic opportunity, but is a real nice shot nevertheless!
UVDan

I love these little critters too. I am thinking of planting some more bird of paradise plants in the front yard so more of them can hang out here.
