Description

Back in the late 60s, early 70s, one idea for a space shuttle was to have it mounted atop a two stage Saturn-V rocket. The proposal involved an orbiter design that predates the design of the actual shuttle orbiter. In this image, the orbiter design that eventually saw three decades of service is shown atop the Saturn-V. This design would still not have been very economical considering the Saturn-V elements would all be thrown away after each flight.
