Rendered in carrara 8.5 with my first attempt (at least first one that worked after a few trials and errors!) would have liked to have made the tombraider figure a bit lighter but still trying to work out carraras lights , have rto keep trying on that

That's a very good landscape! Look up PhilW's posts about setting Carrara's Gamma to 2.2. Not a one click fix, but it makes using Carrara's lights less finicky and easier to control.

Another Carrara recommendation: Go to the assembly room, select the "Scene" item in the "instances" tab. set ambient brightness to zero, then set "background" to "bi gradient". Then go to the render room and select "Sky Light" in the "rendering" tab - try setting to 100-150%. Do a render, adjust your other lights - and you have very natural fill lighting in your outdoor scene. Very nice scene with excellent lighting, but as you point out the backfill is missing. (PS: Sometimes I cheat by having a weak spot set up to only light the subjects that need it LOL!) Very nice composition on this one too, the colors are gorgeous.
