Description
For this render I made extensive use of the ‘Archard’s Ossuary’ found at DAZ 3D. The minstrel’s pose is modeled after 19th century French painter Gustave Moreau’s ‘Sappho on the Rocks’. Wasn’t really thinking of Halloween while working on this, but all the same I leave it to your imagination what transpires in this scene. :) The following is but one possible interpretation (please feel free to come up with your own):
Learning of and alarmed at the dire misfortunes set to befall the human world unless men turned from their wicked ways, the wandering troubadour traveled far and wide, sharing with all through his songs his vision of a world guided by wisdom and true nobility, a world where men left behind the vices of greed, malignity and ignorance. Alas, the songs were thought of as mere amusement.
The terrible truth was finally seen by all one fateful day. Large numbers succumbed to the spreading darkness, their ranks growing over the months to the point where the burial grounds, by now a bloated necropolis, had little room left to accommodate their remains. Filled with anguish, the minstrel pondered the burning question: what was he to do now? What could he do?...

It does look like a pre-Halloween creation with a magnificent scary sky. I think that your minstrel changes everything. The crumbling of our modern society has brought the minstrel to his knees. I liked your narrative too!
