Description

Cookie, the black lab mix, and her friend Buddy. In Kentucky I knew Buddy from the time he was born. That was about a year before my friend of 16 years, Pooper, died. Buddy would come up to my house and keep Pooper company, which gave Pooper much comfort in her last days. After Pooper was gone Buddy helped me raise my next dog, Boxxie. He taught her to run the woods and hunt, and was an indefatigable play mate. After Boxxie was lost, he did exactly the same with Cookie. After I moved to Tennessee I had to make several trips to Kentucky to manage my property there, which I was trying to sell on a lease agreement. Each time I arrived there Buddy would greet me, and check my Jeep to see if Cookie was with me. A year ago, after my leasers had left (leaving a terrible mess for me to clean up), I found that Buddy had fallen on hard times. The young girl who had taken care of him had moved away, and the kids living at my place had been tormenting him by forcing him to fight a dog much larger and stronger. He was scarred badly by the fights and badly infested with fleas, ticks, and worms. When I got there to work on the property, he just moved right in and made it very clear he was going home with me. He gave me no choice in the matter! I brought him home and did what was needed to heal him. He and Cookie were ecstatic to be together again, and she made it her mission to watch over him. This was not a great photo, very badly lit, but it perfectly shows Cookie performing that mission.

What nasty tenants you had! A story with a happy ending, though.
