Description

Another exploration of the beauty of heavy machinery. This one is a Caterpillar used to control the sand dunes drifting across the boardwalk at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The juxtaposition of such a big vehicle parked on the steep side of such a friable dune made it very attractive to me. I thought at first with all the graffiti on it that it may have been just left there to rust, but when I went back the next evening to shoot it again it was gone. Tracks in the sand should have told me that, but I was too focused figuring out camera angles to capture the big picture to notice the fine details at the time.

Very cool capture Great POV I shudder to think on the hours needed to clean and maintain this machine - especially with all that sand

In the hands of a true artist, even heavy machinery can be works of art - this is superb, Roxy! Who would have thought such a commonplace, utilitarian bit of equipment could look so good? I love the angle - at first I thought you'd tilted the image r camera for artistic effect, but I see the slope now that you mention it.

This is a very cool capture Roxie, and I love the setting here also. Being a big fan of heavy equipment, I am enjoying this series.

Yes, a nice shot! No one would leave one of these to rust away...worth a lot of money!
