Description

Across the street from my house is a cemetery, and while many people seem to find this unnerving or such, I find the place very relaxing. I think it has much to do with the fact that while it's a rather old cemetery for this part of the Midwest (It has graves that date all the way back to the early 1700s!) and a sizable number of Civil War vets (and some who were killed in that war) it's still well-tended, and better still, well-visited. People leave things on the graves of even some of the oldest of them. It's fascinating to see names here that are part of the very founding of this city and much of the surrounding area. At any rate, I get the sense, even on mysterious foggy mornings like this was, that this is a place of peaceful rest for its residents. People who lived good lives and are still loved even if centuries have passed. This fog felt more like a calm magical kind of peace instead of a scary-dreadful shroud.

If I ever get a chance to live across the street from a cemetery, I'll put it at the top of my list! I love visiting, walking, looking, and photographing in cemeteries. This is a wonderfully moody shot. Love it!
