My final photo of some sort of Eupeodes hoverfly on Dahlia 'Purple Gem'.
This is an exceedingly handsome species! Even the furry backside is beautiful!

I've blinked several times in rapt amazement, but still can't get over the exquisite clarity, colors and patterns of this esoteric hoverfly atop the blooming dahlia.

It looks huge sitting on the dahlia. Impressive capture. I used to call my cat fuzzy face. Come to think of it, she had a fuzzy butt as well.
