Thank you! I really appreciate everyones comments. The lighting is from a set called Point and Shoot by InaneGlory and Destiny's Garden for DS, which I like to use for portraits since it's easy to get up quickly and adjust. It's Object Based Lighting, so it works in LuxRender as well, although this was done in 3Delight. Hmmm, I should do a test in Lux as well. I find that with expressions, less is more, especially on close-ups. Slight changes to the brows and mouth area can make a big difference.
