Description

As stated before, this is the tent that I took with me when I went hunting. With the season being warm and dry, I only knew that the tent kept the bugs out. a couple weekends after I got home, the remnants of the typhoon hit the west coast. I decided to see if this tent was waterproof. heavy sigh! nope, the seams leaked and so after three days of wet weather, after it cleared up, I took the tent over to my work and, with permission from my boss, set the tent up to dry and air out. Once that was done I sprayed the entire tent with water-repellant and then sealed the seams. It should be better in the rain. On a positive note, the method of staking the tent and tarp worked to keep the tent from blowing away in the strong winds. I know that this isn't the most exciting image I've ever posted, but it is a part of my experiences in life Have a nice day

Well Mike, hopefully it will not leak next season for you now. I got a little chuckle from seeing this because with your gear out there it looks like your were camping right there in your yard, LOL.

At least you found out about its lack of waterproofing AFTER your trip! And it looked like it could have stood up to anything...

That looks like a cozy tent - as long as it stays dry! Hope your waterproofing works on this. I enjoy your photos, buddy! :-D

Looks cozy enough. I would always require a zippered front to keep the critters out.

If you got a good rain fly cover, you should be OK. My two man tent is open screen but with a good rain fly. No water came in during a heavy down pour with gusting winds camping at Waimanu Valley. As far as putting something under the tent? Yes, but keep everything under the cover so water wont collect underneath. The ground is cold and you need some insulation and it also protects the tent from damage underneath. And of course, a thermal pad under you.... I like your set-up.... Always good to practice setting up before actually going out camping. Aloha

What a result Mike and if you do manage to majorly improve the water repellent nature of that tent, you should copyright it! lol

This is a nice looking tent Mike. I had the same problem with a tent 40 years ago. It initially leaked at the seams, but it self sealed (with a little help) after I got wet a couple of times. I wind checked in Oklamoha, and It passed the test.

The rain tarp is a great idea Mike and it could also keep your tent cooler on a blistering hot day! I like this POV!

Win a few! Lose a few! Eh Mike? But you should be better prepared next time you need to use your tent! Hope your fixes work out well for you!

Caves work much better in bad weather. That's why our ancestors were called Cave Men not Tent Men. Sorry. My brain is still recovering from a full weekend of the three youngest grandchildren. I hope your coating will cure the leaks for you. I used to love camping.
