Description

This is Arnold, the male who laid claim to the feeder during the first half of the summer. I called him that because of his strategy. Nothing fancy, just fly at an intruder in a straight line like a bulldozer. The interloper was supposed to flee without a fight, which they did during his reign, and he would fly back to his guard post. As he did, I could almost hear him saying "I'll be back". Later in the season the females, who are bringing their fledglings to the feeder, start working together. They take turns distracting the boss of the feeder, as the other females raid the goodies. This was too much for Arnold, who left for greener pastures. I took this with a Kodak Z740. I had one years ago which I sold, which I've always regretted. It is only a 5MP camera, but was an easy operating one which produced great, clear, colorful shots. The colors are slightly saturated, just the way I like them, and it made great flash photos of hummingbirds. I recently found a good used one online for a low price, and am very happy to have it in my camera corral!
