Description
They had walked right into it... firefight. The first rounds hit them before they knew what was happening. Snipers above them in the ruined hotel had racked off at least six shots in rapid succession. The side-arms that were standard issue for medics were of little use, the shooters were out of the range of such weapons. Caught in the open with nowhere to take cover, they were easy targets and they both were hit repeatedly... Corporal Lindsey took two rounds to the head and fell almost immediately. Sarge was hit numerous times, but he had pulled his helmet on at the first sound of gunfire, and the Kevlar armor suit protected him from any real damage. He made a desperate call to base and within a matter of minutes the sound of approaching Apaches brought an abrupt halt to the attack.... but it was too late for the Corporal, all he could do was gather up the body and return it for burial.
There is no such thing as a fire-free zone, it doesn't exist.
Wanted to give black and white another go, so here it is.
Thanks for the peek.

Nice work, sad but nice work.
Faemike55
My heart is heavy, reading this and seeing the image, thinking of our men and women in the hot-zones around the world, with some, like the corporal, coming back on the shield and not with it. Powerful image and story the stuff that true nightmares are made of

Very dramatic work! No one is immune to death in a war zone.

Worst thing about a Free Fire Zone is whose behind you, they call it Friendly Fire but there's nothing friendly about a Bullet no matter whose weapon it comes from(flashback sorry). Super work man. Peace
Cimaira

A truly well done and heart felt work. Even when you do everything right you can still lose. It is up to the Gods of War. At least the Apaches came this time, sometimes they don't.
