Hi Folks! This year’s countdown features slightly updated versions of favorite images since the series started in 2000.
Here is my favorite for Number 5: 5 Levee Breaks
This image, from the Scariest Places (2010) edition, will be painful for many of us, because the message it carried in 2005 literally hit home. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, South Louisiana actually was one of the scariest places in recent history. Nonetheless, some of you may be smugly wondering how people could be stupid enough to live somewhere in the USA where floodwaters can rise so quickly and so dangerously. But I’ll bet you don’t live in Iowa. Or New Jersey. Or Vermont. Or Georgia. Or Colorado.
