Description
Good morning. I hope you are all having a fine weekend. Special thanks and appreciation for comments on my last image.
I went to The Lake district the other day and came across this intriguing object in a small place named Seatoller. Green slate was quarried here in the past, and I wondered if it had anything to do with the industry. I bet one of you knows:-)

I've just looked up Seatoller and it sounds like a great place to visit still researching the object Cool capture of it

It's stunning Mike. Great walks and a wonderful starting off point for climbing and views. I've hunted all day to find references to the cast iron thingie but can't find anything. I am having to rely on someone having visited Seatoller before and their knowledge.

An intriguing find Jenny, a sort of diving bell for lowering people down mine shafts maybe? The windows to allow them to drill and set explosives, before being hoisted out? Just guessing, it's not like anything I have seen before!

This sounds like the most plausible explanation Kevin. I so wish I had come across a local person so I could have asked. I did not like to go knocking on doors - now I wish I had!

I don't think that is the answer, its shape would be different for a mine shaft use and there would be a ring at the top. It is just bizarre, perhaps some sort of joke.
Jennyfnf
I think you may be right. Could be it was a "prop" for a game, maybe something like Myst. I'd love to know the answer. The steps intrigue me.:-)

It looks like the top part of a "deep sea diver's" suit...."lol"!! Nice photo Jenny!!
Jennyfnf
heh heh Misty - the diver would have a very large head......
Rob2753
It looks like a large Chiminea lol although with those stpes and the curtains it would make a great play house :) Great fins and shot Jenny :)
Jennyfnf
It does indeed Rob.....we may never know, but yes a great play house as long as it was not too hot or too cold outside:-)
Rob2753
LOL Jenny I played Myst and the sequel :)

What a special object is this, dear Jenny. I also went to look at Seatoller in the lake district; wonderful, what a beautiful high mountains and valleys I've seen. To fall in love with. Our daughters once they visited the Lake District on their transit to Scotland, and they were very excited about it. Now back to your beautiful picture. It seems to burn something in, for when it is dark on summer evenings, perhaps to dispel the mosquitoes, or put large torches or candles in there . Or a BBQ, haha!
