Description

This is the Limestone Pavement at Malham, North Yorkshire the limestone has been eroded over thousands of years to leave this pavement. Some of them move when you stand on them which is quite disconcerting. The day was very overcast but the view was worth the effort. There are large cracks between some of the stones and they form little microsystems for plants that otherwise would probably not survive. Thanks for taking a look, Rob

As soon as I saw this I thought 'geography field trips'! Magnificent scenery. Did you do Gordale Scar and the Tarn? And the R Aire emerging from the base of the Cove. Must return as I live quite near again. Great capture

Wonderful Rob! I saw a programme about the microsystems some time ago on the television. It was fascinating the amount of unusual plants that happily took root and survived so far north. Thankyou:-)
