Description
1918... At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the Great War came to an end. The Great War had to be the ultimate war. Almost hundred years later, we see that it was unfortunately not the case.
With this modest render, I just want to pay tribute to all the ones who fell during WWI and to the ones who survived it and who had to live with the memory of what they had to live in the trenches.
I also want to celibrate the courage and tenacity of all the women who took care of all these men who were fighting for freedom, their freedom as well as ours... They often lost their life in these hospitals sometimes very close to the front line... May the others who were at the rear also be eternally thanked and remembered for their exceptional courage and unfailing devotion...
Now that time has passed and that all the people who lived the 1914-1918 tragedy are almost gone, I think that it is necessary to perpetuate their memory. Be all the victims, military or civilian, of all the other wars, past and present, associated to this tribute. They all deserve it.
From Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen, written in September 1914:
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget...

I have used Photoshop CS6 to give the image that special autochrome look (autochrome is a colour photography process invented in 1903 by Auguste and Louis Lumière who also invented the cinématographe in 1895. Autochromes are colour slides on glass plates. They remained on the market until the mid thirties when colour films were introduced by Kodak and Agfa).

Philippe, as always you did a first class job with you're presentation. I especially enjoyed this dedication to WW1 Vets, and found it very moving. I'm so glad you decided to also pay tribute to the ladies who cared for those men during that difficult battle. Very well done and great idea to keep their memories alive.
