Description
Captured 11/9/13, early morning, at the south wall of our local library.
One of two broad displays set on either end of the library entrance, this one depicting the very early days of California, with its Spanish influence, hundreds of years before the industrial and space ages. More to come of this exquisite work.
A ZOOM would help, especially with the top photo, which appears to wash out from a distance because of its mosaic nature.
Adios, amigos.

Superb captures of this finely-detailed work, Harry; you've gotten the rich colour and intricate design perfectly. I love the horse and the galleon the best, I think!

I've of course had to skip several other of your categories---will get more next time. But I didn't want to end without commenting on one of your recent mosaic uploads. What struck me first, when these went up, was not only the beauty of the mosaics themselves, but the real clarity of your captures. And the crops too---always a challenge, when so much visual information is in front of one. These are fine separate crops, from the original. It's interesting---in the first shot---how the background walls seem almost mosaic as well---they're not; but the small segments in the wall do remind one of mosaic construction...In any case, as you take us through the lower shots, we can see the great variation in even one hue---the many blues and greens, the contrasting whites and grays, ditto for the browns and yellows, etc. And the sharp contrasts between background and animal, emblem, etc. You did a fine job clarifying these, and allowing the hues to speak clearly. You may know this, but "mosaic" comes from the same root as "muse" (and is related to "music" and "museum"). I don't know if anyone's properly explains how the word came to mean 'this' particular style of art; but the style goes back a long, long ways. You captured the clarity and diversity of the art, in all your montages, and showed us the range of subject too. Finely done, Harry. A fine piece of art-capture. (Oh, I wanted to say, from some weeks back: In my piece for Veterans Day, the Rabbi did, in fact, speak English---it wasn't the soldier who knew 2 languages, it was the Rabbi. He'd learned a few languages in his studies, he was very learned, as a number of European rabbis were...so the burden of translation wasn't upon the soldier. I much appreciated your comments to that, as I do all of your comments to me and to others, for your commitment, understanding and eloquence.)
