Description

And finally, the view of the lunar base crew with the sun at the camera back. The crew appears reddish due to the refraction of light through the Earths atmosphere into the shadow cone and onto the lunar surface. This causes the reddish appearance of the moon during a lunar eclipse and I suspect it would affect objects, particularly light colored objects. If Earth had no atmosphere, the moon would be totally dark as Earths shadow passed over it. If this image were taken by a camera, a few stars might show up in the image and the camera would need to be set to a slightly longer exposure as the scene gets darker. Since this view is from the perspective of the story, that is...no camera intended...all the brighter stars are visible. When I was doing this graphic novel, I often recalled my roots and influences. 2001 A Space Odyssey was a major influence in my space related works and so I paid homage to it more or less, by having similar helmets on the lunar base crew. The crew consists of Poser models imported into Lightwave. I put regular Poser shirt and pants on them but scaled them up some. I also made them spacesuit white. Then I post processed the image in Aura by adding the attach rings for helmet, gloves, and added the hoses. I built the helmets in Lightwave. The type of post processing I do in Aura is too tedious for animation. But since I was doing a still image graphic novel, it worked fine in that environment. Hope everyone enjoyed this unusual perspective on lunar eclpises in my last 3 posts. Maybe one day if a similar actual view is ever taken of astronauts on the moon...you can say you saw it here first back in 2013!
