Description

In which a computational error leads to what could be the end of all of space-time. The gravity of the situation could not be under estimated... Luckily it was all "deus ex machina" in the end. Rendered in Firefly, Poser Pro 2014. No post-work here. IDL-only render using ambient light sources and 3 inverse linear point lights.

I spent a fair bit of time trying to get the shadow-play to work in this render, by the way. What do you think? do the shadows add to the dramatic impact? One thing that intrigues me, on a conceptual level, about shadows, is that they can apparently be made to exceed the speed of light... due to them being "non-things"... the breaking of this universal speed limit being something that is intrinsically linked with notions around the possibility of time travel being a reality... at least in terms of classical general relativity and without delving into how quantum mechanics addresses the issue... http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/20/opinion/20wertheim.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=%27the%20shadow%20goes%27&st=cse&oref=slogin& Shadows also carry a wealth of deep rooted symbolic / metaphorical connotation, within the human psyche... and, I think, associations, with all sorts of concepts around the unknown and the unknowable...

Oh yeah... beyond mere shadows, the reflection of the non-existent cat is probably where we are straying into the realm of quantum mechanics, by the way... ;-)
