Description

I guess I'll keep asking for a media/publishing/book illustration or cover art category until someone listens ... lol. Anyway ... When presented with an opportunity to design a new cover for Jinx Schwartz' book Land of Mountains, I was giddy with excitement. It's a story of self discovery and growing up in a time and place that could only be described as wondrous (Haiti in the early 1950's), introducing our young MC to voodoo, social & political strife, exotic people and creatures, and a ZOMBIE! How could I refuse? EPIC e-BOOK AWARD 2012 FINALIST FOR BEST YA A young girl's new home on an exotic Caribbean island is so fascinating she quickly forgets she didn't want to leave Texas. After all, where better than a jungle teeming with voodoo, mystery, and a really pesky zombie, to indulge in her favorite pastimes: riding her horse and snooping. In this humorous adventure, award-winning author Jinx Schwartz transports the reader to another time and place, where little girls and rivers ran wild and free. REVIEWS: The plot was great and I didn't know what would happen till the very end...overall the story was a great adventure for girls. I think that boys would like the story too, but if you have an adventurous daughter this would be right up your alley. ~ Mama Bookworm reviews LAND OF MOUNTAINS is a total delight, a Huck Finn tour of Haiti in the early 1950s except that Huck is an eleven-year-old Texas girl named Elizabeth Ann (or "Lizbuthann," as she's usually called). Transplanted to the beautiful and voodoo-filled island nation when her father goes to work building a dam there, (she) quickly turns pretty much everything upside down, meets an enormous zombie, almost sets off a revolution, and generally livens up an already pretty lively place. A great read, especially at the YA level, and Elizabeth Ann's voice is marvelous. ~ Timothy Hallinan, 2011 Edgar nominee Coming of age can be trying for anyone, but for Texan Lizbuthann and her sidekick Doux Doux Boudreaux, it proves downright mysterious. Plagued by disease, political unrest and a really pesky zombie, the girls somehow manage to not only survive, but thrive, in a land where voodoo reigns. With humor and a real sense for adventure, the author...transports the reader to another time. ~ BiblioTravel ~ Last upload: thumb_2482084.jpg More info available on my website: WillowRaven *Psst ...
