Description
I wanted to share something for junge1's birthday too, but since I have no fantastic photos of shiny planes or cars I just thought i would send along some of my favorite landscape. Hope you have a great birthday. :)
I took this photo back in March 2007. Snow Canyon is a state park in southern Utah Near the town of St. George. I love the colorful landscape of this area.

We didn't get to that corner of Utah when we were there earlier in the year, but it's on our list. I love the geology!

Absolutely agree with you...the rock formations, the colors, the ever changing scenes as the light changes. A beautiful selection for Sig. Nicely done.

It's a beautiful scene; I love these stark desert landscapes. Where's the snow?

Haha..I am not sue why they named it snow canyon. It might see some snow in the winter, but I do not think it would snow there often. This photo was taken in March when it was still snowy and cold up north around Salt Lake City. But here we were in our sandals and t shirts.

Now, I just had to look up the history so here it is: Park History Created in 1959, Snow Canyon has a long history of human use. Anasazi Indians inhabited the region from A.D. 200 to 1250, utilizing the canyon for hunting and gathering. Paiute Indians used the canyon from A.D. 1200 to the mid-1800s. Mormon pioneers discovered Snow Canyon in the 1850's while searching for lost cattle. Modern-day the canyon has been the site of Hollywood films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Electric Horseman, and Jeremiah Johnson. Originally called Dixie State Park, it was later renamed for Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, prominent pioneering Utah leaders. Opened to the public as a state park in 1962. Park Elevation: 3,100 to 4,100 feet

WOW, Thank you very much. This is beautiful as is much of Southern Utah. Just like Tara, I have missed this part of Utah, but unlike Tara I have been in this part of the state numerous times, but was probably just too intend of getting to where I wanted to go without taking the time to stop. Thanks again!!!

I'm a big fan of zooming photos (I zoom everything), and anyone who didn't see this full-size missed something. The tones here---your subtle hues and shadows, etc---are very expressive and subdued. And, to contrast that subtlety, the canyon itself is looming and majestic. I love how you captured the strata of the rocks going "down to the right": But the bottom layer of rocks go "down to the left": A fine contrast. And there's lots of light and lots of shadow, and just enough sky on top to give it all a "crown". It's beautiful, and very clear and atmospheric. A beautiful shot.
