Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

I suppose there's a tremendous feeling of accomplishment involved, but I don't think I could handle the stress. What a great find and capture!

Hehe! Mine too. If he is alone he is a madman. A fantastic pic!

Well seen buddy. Up until last year when i confronted my demons 600 feet plus on a cliff, there is no way on gods green earth I'd do this. Now I'd be glad to give it a go :)

I had no idea, that there were sooooo many different styles of climbing ? ... and adding to your Wikipedia info - I also read this little footnote - "Climbing in Germany, circa 1965. Note the lack of intermediate protection points and the potentially deadly tie-in method, which demonstrate the maxim of the day: "The leader must not fall." ;P IMHO - it seems to me (a novice rock climber) that he had to pick the worst looking stretch, good luck to him ... ah well Bill, you were there to capture/catch him ;)) crazy stuff ! When the chalk marks look like someone just coated a tennis ball in chalk and threw them at the wall because you can't feel any rugosity around the impact, you know it's a tough climb. Even in my youth, such walls were beyond me except in my dreams.....which would sometimes become nightmares. But that's why we climbed :)

Excellent capture!

Oh no, I couldn't possibly climb that! I need my hands free to take pictures. :P Great capture, hon! I didn't even see him.

Super. It is pretty cool to see.

Great capture! if I climb, I'll have strong line to ensure that if I slip, at least I'll only fall a little bit, not all the way down Note: it is not the fall that kills you; it's that damn sudden stop that does it!
whaleman
Excellent shot and sentiments! When rock climbing a fall can ruin your whole day.

OMG - free-climbing solo - without even a spotter or someone to call for help if he falls.... that's just asking for trouble! What a capture, Bill! Great find!

I saw a couple of guy scaling El Capitan in Yosemite and they were mere specks on the wall. I prefer my feet planted FIRMLY on the ground, but guess if there's a rock, someone's gonna climb it!! Nice capture!
jayfar
In zoom I reckon I can see a companion on the ground behind the bushes but even so that looks a bit dire!! Great shot Bill.

It is always amazing to watch those people who pit themselves against sheer rock faces such as this or even higher like El Capitan . I have never been enticed by that activity. I have seen climbers sleeping in little slings hanging off the cliffs....not at all for me... Great capture. Thanks for sharing.

Rather him than me :o)

LOL and mine too Bill !!!! talk about stating the obvious LOL wouldn't catch me doing that although I have tried abseiling once, think I'd rather stick to flying I feel safer that way. Lovely image and gives a feeling of tension, I hope he made it ok :)
Richardphotos
probably a free climb with no spikes or ropes. I never had the desire to try it.
tennesseecowgirl
I have never quite got the point of rock climbing I love to hike but this is not for me, fun to watch though. I would rather take a helicopter to the top. :) great shot
moochagoo
I cant do that with my vertigo. Nice POV :)

Great capture Bill. I reach the summit using an easier way - I drive. If I can't drive or walk I leave it alone!

And to think, I used to climb the quarry sides when I was a teenager! Amazing what stupid things you do lol Great shot though Bill, very well captured! Rob
