Description
This poem was written based on verses from the book of Ecclesiastes (Old Testament).
I've written it in 2003, and these days, nearing the end of 2013, there truly hasn't been any change in our world. As the Teacher in Ecclesiastes keeps saying: "There is nothing new under the sun."
A New Poem Under the Sun
There is evil, here on earth
that is common among all men.
Wrongs cannot be made right,
deficiencies will not be restored.
Time and chance take care of all,
and there is nothing new
under the sun.
The strong do not win the battle,
the swift does not win the race.
Riches do not belong to the clever
and the skilled are not paid.
The wise never get the bread,
and there is nothing new
under the sun.
Poor and wealthy, they differ:
The laborer's sleep is so sweet,
whether he ate little or much.
And the abundance of the rich
will give him sleepless nights.
And there is nothing new
under the sun.
Future and past are all the same:
The things that have been
are those who shall be.
And everything that's been done
is what shall be done.
And there is nothing new
under the sun.
Life and death matter no more:
The living know that
they shall die, but the dead
know not anything, neither have
they any more rewards,
for the memory of them
is forgotten.
There is evil, here on earth
that is common among men.
And all the rivers
run into the sea,
yet the sea is not full…
So what is new
under the sun?

Hi Hanna, Wow... even before I read what you had written above your poem, all the time I was reading your poem, I said to myself... this is definitely a reflection out of the book of Ecclesiastes. Very well done and said and I know that the Lord is pleased with this. Isn't it a blessing when He inspires us through His Word. Excellent work and thank you for being so obedient with sharing it. God Bless —Rich
