I like the imagery, but I suspect I have failed to grasp the underlying meaning. Altho I have read Mann's piece - long long ago, which is probably my problem here; I seem to recall an unrequited passion for a youth which undid the artist visiting Venice; and I recall only thinking back then: "what a dirty old man"; a judgement I may no longer have if I were to re-read the story - all of which is to say I don't totally understand this piece based on my imprecise recollections, but again I must say I enjoy the surrealistic imagery you presented anyway.
