Description
Captured off the side of a medical building, 12/3/13, early in the am, not far from my humble habitat.
Original on top. And ZOOM for much better detail.
I have another variation of this image, but didn't include it in the collage because its added size would have exceeded the required 512kb limit of the posting.
Bye bye.

It's a fascinating surface, these cemented-in-place rocks; lots of stuff can get caught in them over time, which can be quite cool, in addition to all the little lines and layers within each stone. Your variations are well done, Harry; that last one looks like they've been superheated in a barbecue and are ready for someone to do one of those hot-foot walks over! Great work!

These are some nice captures of these cool formations, Harry.

Very interesting! A shame that your climate is too dry for moss.

I've just done the four most-recent shots in a row...that has to be a first for me (considering I'm usually roaming around, 3 months back). I gotta do this more often....Though I studied architecture, I can't figure out whether this kind of facade offers structural aid to the building, or whether it's just for decoration. It's hard to imagine that such a skewed collection of rocks could be useful at holding up a second floor (if there is one), or a strong roof---but I don't know enough about it. Nevertheless, it's such a fascinating gathering of rocks and in such skewed positions, it offers a very rich geologic sampling. A really lovely original which stands by itself. (Full-Size a must.) Your variations, here, are subtler (but for the last), exploring inner hue and contrast more than larger geologic sweep. (And "geologic sweep" isn't too grand a term, btw, because while this is only a segment of a wall, it has the same forms that are found in mountainsides, canyons, etc: Nature is always repeating itself, which is something your closeups show repeatedly.) The second looks like an aerial shot of islands in a frozen sea---I love it and its peach-toned hues. The third also looks aerial, but more bleached by the sun and filled with coppery reds and ochres. A very appealing collection of hues. And, in the last one, you've accentuated the shadows---they're late-day shadows seen from the air---and doused it in a deep Southwest Ore-Red---deep and mysterious. The concrete filler, here, is sunken like a series of canyons. These aren't just 'filtered', they're thought through, with a lot of attention to the variations that this wall offers. Your variations are geologic, with an eye on the grand and sweeping---and all that from a little segment of a wall. I can see why you do these. A fine piece of work, Harry.

Wonderful shot and variations! Beautiful light and detail on your original. The cropped detail is really fascinating. I like the haphazard scattering of the stones, and the different textures and shapes. I like the pitted texture of the oval shaped stone closest to the center, and the lined ones along the bottom to the right. The stone in the center, far right, reminds me of a desiccated tree trunk. The second image made me think of big pine bark chips frozen in ice. I like the textures on the surface of the 'bark' as well as the icy look between them. I like the softer pink and blue tones. Wonderfully gritty textures and strong contrast on the third one. It makes me think of the area on a beach where the sand is giving way to rocks. The fourth one made me think of Mars, though I like Denise's idea of a super heated barbecue. The left point on the center stone looks ready to burst into flame. I really like the fact that your variations look like something real, just different from the original. Your image sent me all over the place, even to Mars. Excellent capture and postwork!
