Description

This is the entrance to the grotto where St. John the Divine is said to have dictated the text of the 'Revelations' to his pupil Prochoros in AD 95. Early Christian tradition identified this writer, John of Patmos, as John the Apostle (Sources: Lonely Planet, Greece, 1996; Wikipedia; Travel brochures). Today, there are only seven monks in the cave/grotto and photography is not allowed. This picture was taken on 2 July 2013, Sig....

Fascinating Sig...it would have been a stark and lonely place when the Apostle John was exiled there. Thanks for the modern day view.

I can imagine John taking a break from his dictation and saying, "You know, Proch, one day there will be a building here to commemorate our work. I could sure use that roof right about now ... it sure is hot today!"
