Description

Photo purists, there's nothing to see here, move along & don't bother reading any further... OK, now that those folks have left the room, I can tell you that this was a pretty radical reworking of an image in Photoshop. I took this photo on a walk with friends in a commercial district in Medford, Oregon. I liked this tree a lot, but the surroundings weren't very interesting or inspiring & I took the photo knowing that it would need significant postwork. Since I started shooting in RAW a few weeks ago, I've been enjoying the flexibility that Photoshop gives me in adjusting Exposure, Clarity & the other parameters available. But this was the first time I made some major adjustments to the Color Temperature & Tint. The day was overcast & drab & I decided to use them to add some color to the scene. Then I went to town with the Context Aware Move Tool & removed several objects on the horizon behind the tree - buildings, cars, an entire hill & a bush. Though that new tool in my arsenal made it much easier than it otherwise would have been, it was still fairly painstaking & I had to zoom in a couple of levels to do the areas between the branches. I know it's not perfect, but, as the expression goes, "good enough for government work"? From my point of view, I turned a photo that I would never have thought worthy of posting at all into one that I THINK has some merit. I hope at least some folks agree... Please zoom.

I think you did a great job on this, I see no problem with creating art with your camera, of course it's always a great feeling when you get the shot you want straight off the bat but a good composition can still make good art, I am pleased you posted it

There are times where I leave the photo as is and then there are the times where some manipulation is required You did a great job on this image. If you had not stated that you removed some stuff, I wouldn't have known it even existed Excellent presentation

Oooooohh! wild applause I liked the picture very much even without the additional information you provided. The pinks and golds and the composition and mood are QUITE satisfying. Then I read about your process, and found THAT to be exciting as well! Fiddling in Photoshop is so much fun, and I love the things you did. Very nice work!!

It looks damned good to me; I would never have suspected that there was anything else in the shot besides that striking tree. Well done!

I'm with the result. You can set some adjustment on your camera and some other in darkroom. Today the darkroom is PS. For me it is the same thing. Great shot.
